From 1 November 2017 introduced a Smoking ban for popular beaches of Thailand
Since November started a pilot project under which it is forbidden to smoke 20 beaches of Thailand. The plans of the Department of marine and coastal resources to impose a ban on all beaches of the country. In the pilot project participated the following beaches : Klaeng, Laem sing, Bang Saen, Cha Am, Khao Takiab, Bo Phut, Haad SAI REE, Patong, Pattaya, Jomtien, Koh-HEI-NOK and Koh Hai-Nai.

For violation of the ban assumed the penalty of 100 thousand baht, or imprisonment for a period of one year.
In turn, the Department promises that at the entrance to the beach will be equipped with a designated Smoking area.
As writes the newspaper The Nation, the reason for the restrictions is the recent study conducted at Patong beach Phuket. On the 2.5-mile stretch of beach was discovered to 138 thousand cigarette butts.
